I did not know you could drive THROUGH a rainbow. Which seems as fine a moment as ever to announce: I won a Pushcart Prize?! Question mark for suspended-disbelief. In the meantime, sending my sloppiest gratitude to @terrain_org for nominating me, and to @kenyonreview for publishing the essay, “Two Breaths,” that won the prize (and yes, if you are nominated you are invited to submit up to three pieces published that year; Who knew?) and more sloppy love to all the people who left their marks (including paw & splash) in the margins of any of my writing/life, ever. When I got the news, I sat in the woods, cried, splashed my face in a spring creek, and recited your names like the mantra you all are.

So, so, honored by both the #pushcartprize and #johnburroughs nature essay nominations from @terrain_org for 2023. Collaborating with the fine people over at Terrain.org was one of my favorite publishing experiences and if you aren’t part of that community yet, I highly recommend getting over there. All my heroes are congregating there and the reading & thinking is both essential and delightful. 😍

So impossible to pick only ten images from @lamuseretreat . Even harder to pick ten memories! But this new novel I’m working on will forever be steeped in the flavors of a tiny and ancient French village hidden in the Montagne Noire. ♥️ 🌳 ps. Those flavors are: black coffee, French lavender, straw hats, fuzzy chestnuts, wool sweaters, long-haired kittens, best friends @k.homes , medieval stone walls, buttered baguettes, and purple lilacs between open red gates.

Pilgrimage has always been my jam. After 11 years hauling motherhood bags full of #allthethings, tossing on a 14lb bag for two weeks is like slipping into WINGS. 🦋 Going with the kind of friend ( @k.homes ) with whom you don’t need a plan. But just a map and the whim to meet the path wherever it greets us.
