Central America is big into recycling old American busses. I was traveling with some British guys in Nicaragua and broke out in tears of laughter when they started jumping up and down, pointing at a pre-painted US bus, and shouting, “Oh my God! LOOK! It´s the Simpsons bus!!!”

These are what we call “chicken buses”, due to the fact that it is most likely that you WILL have at least one chicken or two small children on your lap for the duration of your trip. Dirty, bumpy and sweaty as they may be…the only way one gets around Central America is via chicken bus, and the experience is actually, in my personal opinion, fun….and most certainly, in all opinions….memorable.
